Is this the wrong thing to do?

Make her sit when someone passes and distract her with her favorite toy or treat. If the toy squeaks, get her to sit and squeak it. If the toy doesn't squeak just wave it around in front of her. For treats, show her the treat and use it to make her concentrate on you. When the person/animal passes, give her the treat and praise her if she doesn't react to them.
