How to discipline your cat the right ways?

I take my cats for walks and lately he's been throwing an attitude he growls and hisses when I dint go where he wants to go and he acts like a spoiled brat.. He even tries to get out of his harness.. But he knows he's not supposed to go out without it. How can I punish him in an unharmful way?
