Question about my period when breastfeeding?

Ok i have been pumping for the past 2 months. In my last visit my dr said that while i kepted producing milk i wouldnt get my period. Well last night i got It. So im very confused alot of my friends told me the sme that i wouldnt get it. Has anyone been through this.
